Synchronous fireflies that live in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park put on a flash of lights as part of their mating display from late May to mid-June and this special event, with limited slots due to its immense popularity, is determined by a lottery system in late April. Successful applicants will be able to watch the light show at the Elkmont viewing area.
