L'Anse aux Meadows (Viking Village)
This archaeological site on the northernmost tip of Newfoundland is the only confirmed Norse or Viking site in or near North America outside of the settlements found in Greenland, dating back to AD 1000. It is famous as the landing site of the Vikings, the first Europeans recorded to reach the new world over 1,000 years ago.
