This man-made "chimpana" floating garden island in the waterway channels of Xochimilco is infamous for the many dolls hanging from trees and buildings. According to legend, a young girl drowned in the canal and her body was found on the island banks. The island owner Santana claimed to have heard the girl crying "I want my doll" and terrified, hung up the doll he found near where her body was found. After that, everytime he went outside he found a new doll hanging from a tree. He later died in the same spot as the girl, and many believe his death was caused by the girl's spirit which still haunts the island. Now a major tourist attraction, visitors even bring their own dolls to add to the island's creepy collection.
