Maras Salt Ponds
Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water from a local subterranean stream into several hundred ancient terraced ponds of varying colour, creating a beautiful sight. However, the tourists are not allowed to tour the salt ponds any longer due to contamination.
