Temple of Heaven

This temple complex, first built in the early 15th century, was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for a good harvest. It is now a top attraction in Beijing, with the structures carefully constructed to symbolize the connection of Heaven and Earth, with Earth represented by a square and Heaven by a circle.
