MOVING IN & INTERNET SETUP

MOVING IN
You can use GOGOX or Lalamove to move house at an affordable rate. Download both apps, select “Move door to door” plus the number of movers required, and compare prices. Each additional mover costs about $15 more, but usually just you, your spouse, plus the lone driver are sufficient if it is not a huge load.

  • GOGOX/Lalamove — Starting from $40 per move (1 driver-mover, depends on distance travelled)

Note that GOGOX or Lalamove movers are usually not able to dispose of huge and bulky items.

INTERNET SETUP
You can setup your internet before or after you have moved in. First choose which Internet Service Provider (ISP) you desire. All have their pros and cons, and I settled with M1.

After signing the e-agreement, there will be two appointment dates. First, an M1 contractor will come to verify your new address, where you must be present.

Second, another M1 contractor will come to install the broadband modem and setup your internet. Ensure you have a router beforehand (either included in your M1 broadband package or purchased yourself). I got a D-Link Covr from Challenger for $107.

There is also an one-time activation fee for the modem (the rest are FOC).

  • M1 ONT Activation — $84.11
  • D-Link Covr-1100 Mesh Wi-Fi System — $107 (inclusive of $8 one-month membership fee)
  • M1 HomePac 500Mbps (Fibre) Plan — $30 per month (2 year contract)

Do link the monthly bills to your bank account (or joint account with your partner) for convenience. For M1, the bill reference number is the account number on your M1 app’s Bill tab.

For those aren’t sure of these terms:
  • A modem basically connects your home network to the internet.
  • A router creates this home network between your computers.
  • A mesh wifi system is simply a network of 2 or more routers (one connected directly to the modem, others placed strategically around the house) to provide better internet reception for rooms far from the modem source.
